I have recently picked up this set of $1 American Buffalo Commemoratives. They are called Proof and Uncirculated.

Does the community agree that these are as claimed? Should I have them slabbed?

yes one is proof , one is uncirculated, And no I wouldn't pay to have them slabbed, you will never get the cost of doing it back.. you can get some nice after market holders for them for less than a buck each.. either an round airtight or a quandrum square holder.

They to look to be as you stated to me

If you want to get them slabbed to increase their value, then they will really need to be TPG graded as MS70 and PRF70.

With the haze on the proof coin, IMHO it's unlikely to get graded higher than Prf69 (and could easily come back as Prf68), so in terms of value it's probably not worth it.

As far as the MS coin is concerned, IMHO you can't tell an MS70 grade from a photo. You really need the coin in hand and look at it with magnification. Even so, it's unlikely to be TPG graded as a MS70. If you look at the PCGS population for this coin, 10.46% are MS70, 86.02% are MS69 and 3.52% are less than MS69. So, your coin is likely to be graded MS69.

If you want a specific grade slabbed coin, then I've found that it's usually better to buy the coin already slabbed rather than submit a raw coin for grading. It eliminates any surprises.

On the other hand, if your reason for slabbing the coins is to protect them, then go ahead and get them slabbed. Those holders are about the best protection you can buy for coins, plus you get a TPG opinion on grade.
