i just received my slver reverse proof set san francisco from the mint. one set has the Lincoln Penny upside down. is this an error ? thanks john ps I'm new to this forum

No, it's not a coin error, but a minor packaging snafu by the Mint.

BTW, US Mint proof set lenses are not sealed. You can easily open them. You don't need to, but if the upside down coin really bothers you, then you can open up the lens, pop the coin out and put it back in correctly. IF you do this, just be VERY careful with the cent and the other coins so as not to damage them. Use cotton gloves or a soft microfiber cloth to GENTLY handle the raw coin(s) so that no scratches or fingerprints get on the coins.

More evidence that there is no visual inspection, human or computer, of coins packaged at the mint.

Personally, I'd send it back. I wouldn't want to take a chance that I could screw it up plus the mint needs to see as many of their mistakes as possible if we're going to get them to up the QC game.

Not worth the time and you are not going to teach the Mint anything.

Just open it and fix it. Tree Monkey manged to do it okay.
