Here is a 1942 Wheaties the has had something happen to the reverse side. I thought at first maybe a chemical! But then it doesn't affect the whole area. some portions of the letters are untouched. Also the Obverse is totally un damaged. Any clue?

Looks like a old sticky residue stain that won't come off.

It is considered PSD (Post Strike Damage) there are numerous elements that could have caused the discoloration, who knows it is nothing special just throw it in with the rest of your Wheaties.

May have gotten were and turned a green color. Best to keep cents away from water. Sometimes people put a wet coin into a 2X2. 10 years down the road, it is now green. Who is to blame for this?

Some foreign substance created this effect. Basically a cull now.

Looks like the upper part of the reverse had something covering it and when the substance was removed, the color difference with the bottom part, exposed to normal wear was apparent.

Hmmm, I don't think so, are you seeing a distinct layer of metal atop the devices on the reverse? It almost looks like someone dropped a melted glob of copper onto it.

I figure what ever was used to glue to coins together is still on this one. The reverse was probably facing that direction. (No letters to tell it is mirrored or not.
