i just picked up a few specimen sets,2008,2006,2015-raccoons,2015 blue jay,2011.. looking for opinions..

i realize the value is in the special toonie or loonie coin, seeing ebay sold prices, the single coin usually sells for more than the set would sell for....

so does it make more sense to just break out the special coins, and sell them one by one, and sell everything left as a lot..

Doesn't seem to be much interest in specimen coins, other than the special ones..

That is definitely how I would do it.

If you can't easily get the coins you need in any other way, to build your own type set or date set or whatever,
breaking up a mint set is often the most practical way to go.

Are you keeping the special coins or trying to sell those?

my plan is to sell them, but was wondering, if I should break up the sets, or sell them whole?

@silverwolf, the value is in the special coins as you stated. So IMHO I would first try to sell the special coins individually without breaking the set (only break the set when the coin is sold and paid for).

Unless you have a way to sell complete sets locally the Fees and Shipping will take a big chunk out of your sales.

Good luck with this!
