Hello everybody, once again I found an odd 1983 P penny in my pocket change. At first glance it look like the letter #3 is missing in the date. Closer inspection reveals a weak number instead. Is this a common error or does this command a premium?

The "3" in the date was Struck Through Grease a little bit, causing it to be weakly struck. Although, it's not enough to command a premium. It's worth face value, but you can still keep it if you want. http://www.error-ref.com/struck-thr...-grease-oil/

Edit: It was also over polished as well, in order to get rid of a Die Clash, and to extend the life of the die a little longer. It could be a combination of both that caused that issue on the "3" of the date.

It kind of looks like a minor Struck Through Grease at first but a closer inspection shows some heavy die abrasion meaning they polished the heck out of the die to get rid of a clash or something. You can see what look like little scratches all.iver the coin. I would lean more towards that, in my opinion. Either way no premium for it. Pretty common on the early zinc pennies.

Well there you go. EV knows a lot more than I so it probably is a strike through. It def does.look like it the way the three is deformed and flows to the side kind of. It looked like they removed a clash so that's why I was leaning more that way. Still a pretty cool looking find.

It looks like it is a copper plated cent to me. Copper cents will weigh 3.1 grams,+/- .13 grams and a copper plated zinc cent will weigh 2.5 grams,+/- .13 grams.
