I am from castle rock wa and live in longview wa. I'm a citizen of the United States. I am trying to learn how to recognize a good rare coin when I see one.

Depends what you consider a rare coin.
One word of advise, do not even look at a rare coin unless
it has been certified by a reputable TPG. Even then there are
counterfeits out there.
Rest in Peace

If it looks shiny then its rare or made of gold. ^_^ thats in general, however there are exceptions mint errors or rare dates stuff like that.

You know I think popularity is just as important as rarity. What good is a rare coin if nobody wants it? In that case it becomes a personal thing.
