Hi everyone, I found this Morgan dollar between my grandfather's coins and several things caught my attention. As for weight is correct, the diameter is smaller (37mm) than the one outlined (38.1mm). But especially the blow or "error" in "TRUST" make me think that the coin is not original.

I do not know much about these coins and any help would be greatly appreciated.

From what I can tell it's an authentic Morgan that took a hard hit in the area you have noted.

and to CCF!

I don't see any of the usual markers indicating it is counterfeit.
My concern is the diameter which you say is 1.1mm less.
Are you sure you measured right as there is no way for
it to be smaller and yet be genuine.

Could you remove it from the holder and take a picture of the rim?

Thank you very much for answering and helping me clarify the details of this coin. Thank you also for giving me the welcome to the group. I agree with JimmyD that usually it can not be smaller and still be authentic, but as you observed, you don't notice the usual marks of an imitation except for the small hit in "TRUST". I hope the photos help a little more.

In the case of the measurement, it is noted that it barely reaches 37mm.

At 37mm it has to be a fake. One thing that looks suspicious is the depth of detail is quite shallow, a real coin has more relief don't it?

My thought was the outside diameter had been filed down and the reeds had been removed but since they are intact at 37mm I agree with Crazyb0, it has to be a counterfeit.

Could you give us the weight, please, as an additional check.

I'm thinking it's fake, but weight would help.
