Didn't you already do a tutorial on Die Deterioration using this same example? Why I ask, VLDS and DDD are interrelated.... maybe should have continued it within the context of Die progressive changes? This may be a bit ambiguous and confusing, a great start to incorporate it all into one theme paper, and future chapter in your own book!

I did, but I wanted to share this on here for die state purposes. Just wanted to show what it would look like. Getting a coin in a earlier die state is better, if you're picky about die states. I'll show what an earlier die state coin looks like later, and why it's better to have an earlier die state coin.

This is what is called constructive advice, Take it or leave it.. You remember how I developed my tutorial on Die Deterioration for Moxkings contest? Use progression stages, define and describe each pic, point out those fine detail.

I remember you doing that. Sure. I'll take your advice Crazyb0. I'll just have to get some of the same year coins together, in different die states.

And here I thought the Mint made all of the Cents from the 80's look like that.

Here's what a Mid Die State coin looks like. The details are still fairly crisp and sharp, but it's starting to get noticeably weaker. There's a " Ridge Ring" slowly starting to form at the top from die wear. The devices in "IGWT" are slowly starting to creep off of the edge a little bit. Here's what a Late Die State coin looks like. The details are starting to get weaker and are not crisp. There's a " Ridge Ring" starting to form near the top edge of the coin. Die flow lines are starting to become noticable, and are flowing outwards. The "IGWT" is starting to fall over the edge, and are somewhat weak and mushy. This die will be ready for retirement eventually. And finally, here's what a Very Late Die State coin looks like. You can see the heavy die flow lines, and it also has a very mushy and melted appearance to it. The details are very weak and has no crispness whatsoever. The bust is very stretched out, and is very weak. The "IGWT" has fallen over the edge, and is very weakly struck on the coin. His This die was way past normal retirement, and should've been retired a very long time ago! Feel free to favorite this thread, and use it for future use. I couldn't find a Early Die State for that year, so Mid Die State was the closest I can get. Early die states are much more collectable and desirable by coin collectors. Also, die states matter, since coins can be worth more in earlier die states. Early Die State coins have freshly struck details, and the crispness is very sharp. I hope this helps. Let me know what you think.

Thanks; very interesting. That last coin is quite ugly.

You're very welcome and no problem! I figured I would post this for educational purposes about the different types of die states.
