Yes 100% damage, but very glad that you asked. From the pattern it looks like it was dragged across a rough surface--perhaps a so-called parking lot coin?

Thanks once again... I have a few 1970s Pennies that I would really like to know if they are small date. I never imagined coins had Soo many little details, that go unnoticed to most. I also need to save up and get a real magnifier.
Have a great day,
Jason

Yep. It's Post Strike Damage (it happened after it left the U.S. Mint). Looks like it was dragged across the pavement in a parking lot.

Absolutely a damaged coin ... and our hope is education for collectors to gain the skills to know for themselves.

Of course there could have been a time when a Mint worker had to many Martinis for lunch and made that thing.
