Hello Bama778 and

This looks to me like a typical example of a coin that's suffering from environmental damage, probably after having been buried in the ground or lying on a beach for a few years.

Ask any metal detector owner and they will tell you that they find dozens of cupro-nickel coins that look just like this. I usually rub my 'beach coins' in the wet sand between my thumb and forefinger to get them back into spendable condition!

, with being buried..try a picture of the edge of the coin, you should still be able to see the copper sandwich.

@bama, the weight should be 2.27 g if the planchet has all the layers--this one seems to be within spec. This link may be of some interest:

That is definitely a metal detector find, been buried in ground, I am certain because I was metal detecting yesterday and found a few just like yours.
