Went to the supermarket to pick up paper towels for my work. The cashier handed me my change and I noticed a proof. I happened to look in the drawer, almost all proofs. I got the following dates, all S mint. 1969 2x 1970 2x 1972 1973 1978 1984 1987 1989 1990 1991 1992 1994 1999 2000 2013 2016 Someone must have dumped a collection!!

Interesting. Makes me think they are the lower grades from a bulk submission to a TPG looking for 70s.

Excellent finds! Quote: Someone must have dumped a collection!! Possible. Quote: Interesting. Makes me think they are the lower grades from a bulk submission to a TPG looking for 70s. Also possible. Easier to spend than sell the rejects.

I'm going to go back and see if the courtesy booth will sell me some dime rolls. I don't expect much from it, but it's worth a shot.

They sold me 3 rolls, but I didn't have any luck. Bought a candy bar and asked for a dollar in dimes at the register. Got 1 more proof, 1975.

Somebody wanted that bottle really badly...
Check your local news outlet for stolen coin collections, that's what thieves do for the contemporaries, cash 'em out instead of pawn 'em.

Ha, they don't actually sell booze at this grocery store. It's hard to say how they all got there. Maybe someone passed away and whoever got them didn't know what they were. The fact that they got there all at once is pretty strange. It could very well been a complete proof set that was cashed in there, given that there was such a large mix of dates.

Nah, they are all clad. I was hoping there were some silvers floating around when I went back to the store. Got 19 total proofs yesterday. I have an old whitman album that I have a circulated set of silvers Roosies in. I put them all in the back of that album.

WOW! That's crazy! Congrats!
I'm guessing they were probably part of an entire proof roll - maybe a partial 1968-2017 set with some duplicates or something... I would assume that other customers got the rest of the set.
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!
