Why Are There Differences In Design Of 1 Oz Kruggerand From Year To Year?

In the 2008 the little pips around the rim look separate and elongated versus the more rounded and short pips say on a 1974. Thanks for any insights. Report this Post to the Staff

There are literally thousands out there in all years. These are lacking in detail compared to genuine coins. Here is an token example from China, note lack of detail. Report this Post to the Staff
glenmorenee Valued Member United States 314 Posts	Posted 08/08/2018 3:47 pm I was hoping that noticing slight differences in detail would be an easy way to detect counterfeits but I guess you have to use everything at your disposal, like a combination of weighing, sizing, pinging and design details. My heart sank when I noticed some lack of detail on one of my coins (1982 Krugerrand) but it turns out that's just the way a 1982 looks. The 2008 is very similar to the one you posted, fine separate pips and a completely different font as compared to other years. Report this Post to the Staff
JimmyD Bedrock of the Community Canada 21631 Posts	Posted 08/08/2018 4:37 pm The best way to see if it is counterfeit is to compare a photo of your coin beside a known genuine coin. That way you can see an suptle differences. Here is an example of one I reported to ebay on the CCF counterfeit forum showing some of the areas to look for but different counterfeits may have other areas of concern. If you have concerns about your 2008, just post a picture of the obverse and reverse and someone should be able to help determine if it is legitimate or not.
