I found this coin today - is it worth anything? The head side appears to be very lightly imprinted - it looks blank and feels smooth to the touch, but if you tilt it in the light you can see a faint imprint of the outline of Jefferson's head. There is a raised rim around the edge on that side also. The back appears to be normal (not pictured). Can anyone help? Do I just let my 4 yr old keep it as a treasure or is it worth anything more than face value?

It looks like it was struck through a die cap, but like coop mentioned, a reverse pic is needed to confirm it.

To CCF! It looks like it was Struck Through a Die Cap, but in order to confirm it 100 percent, we'll have to see a picture of the reverse. http://www.lincolncentresource.com/...Die_Cap.html

It is called a Die cap when it falls off the die.

When it is striking coins, it is called a capped die.
Same item, different use.
