I visited Italica outside of Seville Spain in February and I finally ran across the right coin minted there. Italica Hispania Baetica Tiberius 14-37AD Bronze As 29mm 13.5g TI CAESAR AVGVSTVS PON MAX IMP head rt. MVNIC ITALIC PERM DIVI AVG, alter inscribed PROVIDE NTIAE AVGVSTI Italica is the birth place of both Trajan and Hadrian. The site is easily accessible by car from Seville and is well worth visiting. For Game of Thrones fans, its amphitheater served as the meeting place of the principle characters in the last season. But honestly, I was more impressed with the mosaics. Photo above is not mine. It's from Wikipedia. Photos below are. I waited 6 months for the right coin to come around. I wanted one where "ITALIC" was clear and the portrait was decent - as well as finding it for a decent price (<$200). Edited by jskirwin 08/12/2018 5:33 pm

Well know that's something to attract my notice ! Magnificent ! Stupendous ! and besides ....... really nice I have been looking out for these types myself In case you didn't notice ........ It is very surprising the prices both asked and realized by these bronzes They don't seem particularly rare but they do fetch premium prices I think a modest amount of additional cleaning might improve it some Not too much though Just enough to give it the "venerable" look
Great acquisition

Impressive coin. The mosaics are great - must be nice to own a coin from an area you've visited.

Great looking coin!
I love Italica, and Sevilla for that matter! There are a couple nice coin stores around downtown.
Have you visited the ruins down at Cladio Baelo, about an hour south of Rota? They are pretty amazing.

@jskirwin, great coin and I completely agree about the mosaics of this region!

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, Half, we made it down to Baelo Claudia. The museum there is top notch considering the site is off the beaten path. Plus the site itself reminded me of a more compact Ostia. The economy of the town centered on fish sauce. Evidently the Roman Empire ran on the stuff. The archaeologists evidently found half a meter of the stuff in some of the pits.

Another great place to visit is Merida which is about 2 hours NE of rota. A bit farther is Caceres which is not bad.
Merida is probably my favorite place out of all the towns I visited. Everywhere you look there are ruins, some of which are quite well preserved. The roman bridge is awesome and still in use!
We visited there a couple times and I wish I could go back again.

Nice coin!....Thats got my mouth watering ... I lived near Seville for a few years and visiting Italica was one of the reasons I started collecting Roman coins, hence my avatar...As Half said Spain is full of some amazing Roman sites...I now live a couple of hours south of Barcelona, if anyones out this way I would recommend visiting Tarragona with an Amphitheatre that looks out over the sea, a great museum and a Roman circus all well worth a visit...Paul
