Dear all,

In recent I got 1 New 50 Pence from GB. The "G" somehow looks weird to me. Can someone tell me what had taken place for the "G" to look this way.

Cheers,
Nelson

Hello nelsonong and

I suspect it's taken a hit from another coin or being dropped, but the style of the lettering on British 50p's does vary a bit from one year to another, so please could you post a photo of the whole coin, or at least let us know the date and whether it's a standard design (Britannia or shield reverse) or one of the commemorative issues?

Thanks!

I've located another 1977 50p to compare.

I'm still inclined to think that your coin may have just received a few hits in circulation - the upper left serif of the 'R' looks a bit battered as well. But I suppose it could be die damage - I'd be interested to hear any other theories from CFF members!
