The top character for Candareen is proper as found in reference books. But then there is also a different character for Candareens on other coins. Why the two different versions?

I've also seen this legend described as 1 Mace 4 Fen 4 Li, so maybe the word "Li" has something to do with it.
Rest in Peace

Could it have to do with specific dialect of language? All I know is when Chinese tried to do English, they messed up a lot!

The character li is #37328;, as I can see it. According to Wikipedia it's a smaller unit worth 1/10 of a candareen, but there isn't a citation so do a little more reading to make sure.

The first coin is a 7 mace 2 candareens (#19971;#37403;#20108;#20998;).
The second is 7 candareens 2 li (#19971;#20998;#20108;#37328;), and the last is 1 mace 4 candareen 4 li (#19968;#37403;#22235;#20998;#22235;#37328;).

P.S. nciku is a great site if you're trying to write out some of these characters.

Edit: Well, that didn't work. Here's what I wrote:

Ok thank you so much for this info.
It helps me get a better understanding of these legends where the characters seem to be at odds with the English language I read in some of the reference book translations.
So if think right then the legend that references state as 1 Mace and 4.4 Candareens is really 1 Mace and 4 candareens (which is the "4") and then 4 Li which would be the ".4"

That helps me too! Thanks!

Even showing these coins to non Chinese collector, they are confuse as most of us are, looking to go on board late this year.

OK guys thanks for pointing me the right way. I know my mistake. I had Tael, Mace and Candareen in my head but I was not thinking of the smaller subdivision (Li) and how it is depicted on the coin. I refreshed my memory of this topic by thumbing through Kann's book The Currencies of China where I discovered I didn't have "Li" in mind when I posted the topic.
