I found a Mexican Marriage token in a bag of foreign coins. At first I thought it was a religious medal.

Using a numismatic item to marry your wife who may eventually nag you about your numismatic endeavors so much so that you will have to sell some of your coins in the divorce and end up looking for coins in coin star machines where you may find a marriage medal. Kinda circular?

Look up "Las arras" on Wikipedia for the custom behind the token. Wikipedia says the tradition is for gold tokens. Is this one silver? ( Doesn't look it ).

The Meaning of the Wedding Coins (Arras) - There are Gold, Silver and this (probably for us poor folks) white metal. This custom developed from the tradition of giving an arrabon, a Greek word for "pledge." In essence, this was the "dowry" that represented the groom's commitment and ability to care for the material needs of the home.
