Or is it just a flashy business strike. Fields are prooflike and very flashy/bright. I took 4 photos. Two show the blue-ish gold toning and the other two show the coin without being tilted to show toning.

one would think that more effort would be put into the striking of a proof coin, yours shows it being a MAD. I am not familiar with this era of US minting process so I may be off, I would not think this is a proof coin.

Other bits to remember are that dies used to strike proof coins were sometimes later used to strike circulating coins AND the first coins struck by fresh dies have proof-like surfaces.

One could always try variety attribution via Fortin's book http://www.seateddimevarieties.com/...2varpage.htm

Thank-you all. It came in a U.S. dime type set. I may just keep this one and sell the others.

Whether it is proof or not it is a fantastic coin. I would try to attribute it using Fortin's book. (which I don't have, unfortunately, or I would try to attribute it from the pictures)

I'm thinking that it's a Business Strike, but I might be wrong, since I'm not an expert in this area.
