Hi everyone! Just looking to hear what people recommend for long term storage of proof coins. I'm in the process of putting my entire world coin collection into 2x2 mylar flips, but I'm worried about toning with the proofs. I know storage environment is a key factor, but aside from that, do you think the cardboard mylar flips will keep the coins relatively safe from toning in the long term? I mean for the life of the collection, hopefully decades. I know there's no fail safe method, but just looking for recommendations.

Thanks!

Daniel

try doing a search for coin storage, tons of good advice. in short humidity and temperature swings, are the biggest worries. the flips are not an issue if you deal with humidity and temperature swings. if the coins are in a sealed area keep desiccate packets with them, if the coins are in a safe keep desiccate packets in there.. if it is long term storage in a sealed area, like a safe I try to open the door for 12 hours once a week, to help.

I have silver proof sets from the 1950's that are still fine in their original packages. Fortunately my wife likes the house cold, so my air is on 24/7 which keeps the humidity level way down...

Assuming the environment is acceptable, yes, proper cardboard holders should be fine. By proper, I mean a good brand with Mylar and archive quality cardboard. I have a few proofs in cardboard 2x2s for close to twenty years without issue.

I put Proofs in Albums and have no problems with that.

PVC-free 2 x 2s or good quality albums should be fine for storage.
