Hi .. Please forgive me for being uneducated in numismatics. I have some questions about some money I've recently come across. (2 deaths in the family, both people well into their 90s).

There are three interesting pieces and hopefully someone can help me identify them or tell me where I can find more information.

The first is a one dollar note - across the front it says

The
Federal Reserve Bank
Chicao
Illinois
Will Pay to the Bearer on Demand
One Dollar

There is a date May 18, 1914.

Second I have a Silver Certificate with a black eagle on the front. This bill of course looks old and has a small hole in the bottom right hand side.

And, lastly, for now, I have an 1883-O Morgan dollar that looks in terrific condition to me. Hardly shows any wear, although it is dark. I mean the features on the bust and the eagle are clearly visible.

Any help you all can give me would be so appreciated! Thank you in advance!

PS I posted this in the "introduce yourself" portion of the forum but wasnt sure if anybody reads that :)

Hello -

I will leave grading & valuation to the experts on the forum - but I'll try my best as far as identification of the notes (and if I'm incorrect, someone else here should be able to provide you the correct info :-)

The first - Series 1918 $1 Federal Reserve Bank Note. It looks like a Fr. 728 based on the signatures (Fr. # = Friedberg # being the generally accepted catalog system for paper money). I believe this note is nicknamed the 'Green Eagle'.

Second note - Series 1899 $1 Silver Certificate, either Fr. 234 or 235 (can't quite make out the signatures). This one's nicknamed the 'Black Eagle'.

Very nice large size notes! This is a great start if you're considering collecting paper money - Best of Luck!

The fed reserve 1914 note is a good note to have(I think the Chicago District is one of the rare ones to get). The black eagle however is a different story. I believe there are 3 different signature combinations for that year. Now their a little tough to make out, but if you can get your hands on a currency price guide book and look at the signatures and try to compare them to the one on the note.
