My 1969D coin has been in a glass picture frame for 49 years. I graduated from high school in 1969 and my uncle put in a glass picture frame 1969 with coins of 1967, 1968, and 1969. My uncle may have polished the coin, I have no idea. I have similar coins that are beautiful. Maybe these should be called uncirculated, not sure. I have to reason to clean, they have never been handled until I recently opened the frame and took the coins out. The reason he did not use all 1969 coins was because there was a shortage. There is some history on this topic. Thanks for your replies. Rose

It has been cleaned and is worth face value. Even if it wasn't cleaned it would probably be worth around 1 cent, as only very high grade coins can sell for prices like $8000.

I graduated from HS in 1969. My uncle took 1969, 1968, and 1969 coins into a frame. He glued them to the cardboard which I had to put under warm water to get the card board off of the back after I had taken them out of the frame. I then rinsed the Lincoln Penny's in spring water and dried them with a soft cotton cloth. These penny's including the one originally put on the website have been in a frame since 1969. They have been protected from elements since that time. I had forgotten I had them until one day I was cleaning out a closet. I had no reason to clean them. They were not dirty. This was my graduation present. I remember my mom telling me that my uncle had a hard time finding 1969 penny's the year I graduated. At that time the government confiscated the 1969 penny's in 1969. This is why he included the 3 years. These are some. I have some more. The pennys all formed the year 1969 in the frame. It was pretty neat.

First off Rose, But why would the gubmint confiscate the 4 BILLION 1969D Mint Lincoln Cent. I graduated in 1970, was a collector then and don't recall any such thing. Secondly, the current listing value of an MS65 1969D is only 30 cents. I think someone may have exaggerated the value of that years coin, in other words, your leg has been pulled. Now there is one coin that has value of the 1969 year, but it is the S mint Doubled die coin. In High grades that will go for thousands of dollars yes, but not a Denver D mint coin. The recall of coins in the 60's was the silver issued dimes, quarters and halves prior to 1965.

Thank-you for your response. I will find an article that I read awhile ago and it explains what happened.
