So, I was searching through a batch of coins I had received from a relative and I came across this odd coin. It is straight up brown, almost blackish around Lincoln's head, neck and shoulders but everything else is almost this red rusted color. The 1 in 1983 and the T and Y in LIBERTY are faded. On the reverse the memorial is all brown but the red rust color is on everything else. What is this coin?

That is a copper-plated zinc core Lincoln cent(1982 -present), I call a Stinkin Zinkin. These are known for zinc rot, and when the plating is damaged, worn off the grayish zinc shows, turning black as it "rots".

It's a damaged coin with Zinc Rot setting in. It's spendable.
