I saw something on annealing oven process where copper can be transferred to other coins by accident? just wonder if this could be what happen or its just corrosion?
Looks more like it had acid placed on the obverse of the coin and left for a while. It may have been an outdoor find, and someone tried to to remove the red color on the coin. Nickels are not plated before they are struck. They are a mixture of copper and nickel. usually silver colored. (turn dark when found outdoors) All PSD.
