Hi I bought this coin a couple of days ago, at a antique store For only 30 dollars. The owners had no knowledge or information about the coin. Expect that they thought it was greek or roman. Any information such as grading, origin, authenticity about the coin is greatly appreciated. Thank you

Looks genuine
Although these days the fakes are getting rather impressive too !
At the price it was a good buy
Not a steal mind you ......
But I would say fair to both parties

Trajan is always popular for being a rock steady type ruler and a great generalissimo in his own right who expanded the empire into Mesopotamia (ie Iraq !)
First thing his successor Hadrian did was pull out the troops from that furnace
He was a military type alpha male but showed great discipline in his personal life

Not one that you see very often

Great portrait and looks genuine to me. It is quite darkly toned but not patinated; I suspect this has been in collections for a long time. It looks like it may be coated in wax, which was common up to about the 50s.

Trajan recalled and melted all of the denarii of his predecessors, so his coins (and those of his next few successors) are silly common. $30 was a rock solid buy, but I agree not quite a steal.

Nice portrait, interesting reverse, and overall handsome coin.

A lucky first pick. Now expand your collection through VCoins.com and other ancient specialists you can trust.
