Hi everyone,

I've come across those coins and I'm wondering if this Vespatian is authentic or not? As well as this Phil and Tyche Antioch mint. Would highly appreciate the swift responses if possible!

Much appreciated!

The obverse edge at 8 o'clock needs to be seen close up

Hi FVRIVS.
Thanks for replying but unfortunately those are true only pics I took. Anything to doubt it's authenticity?

I don't like the surfaces of that one. Might be a sand-cast tourist fake.

I guess I'm middle of the road on the Vespasian. I initially thought it was okay, and perhaps it is. But I'd probably feel better about it if what I think is supposed to be a beaded/pelleted border beyond the obverse lettering looked, indeed, like worn beads/pellets rather than a solid raised line. (A line which also, remarkably, matches the edge of the coin for a half rotation) Granted, I don't collect Romans - so maybe the solid line is not unusual, but when FR expresses misgivings about any coin - and especially a bronze issue - I become wary about it too. He knows his AE's.

And I have a limited experience casting bronze
It often comes out black
If the metal is partly recycled material you will often get some porosity in the top portion below the sprue which gets cut off and filed down
I believe that is what I am seeing 8 o'clock obv and 10 o'clock rev

and well let's face it .......
Along with Caesars elephants IVDEA CAPTA is probably the second most copied coin in the Roman series
