1972-S LMC. Is This Normal?

Have not seen a mint mark location that high up. Almost half way of the S. Is this normal like this and I know they punch by hand but it very high to me

Does look a bit high to me too.....but, like you said, they punch mm by hand. If there was only one die punched with mm that high, there is still probably untold thousands like the one you have.

As long as it is clear and not stamped into design it is OK.

Mint mark location varied. As Crazyb0 said, as long as it wasn't on the design, it was considered okay.
