So my daughters picked their coins out. They each got 2 because I got "please Daddy" lol. So while we were doing the initial cleaning my 6 year old was like "Daddy you got me liking coins now" so I'm happy. Guess she didn't like coins before even though we search them lol. But anyways both my girls love it so far. And I think the intials clean results look pretty good.

LOL, They got good eyes Zach! They picked out the ones I would have thought you'd have the best luck with! They just may have left you with the slugs! Good Luck, looks like fun, may have to try it if I get bored of the other stuff!

That's awesome!

What are the steps you have planned (or have already done) for the cleaning process?

We really didn't do nothing but soak it for 5 mins in distilled water and scrubbed it with a brush is all they did. Today and put them in distilled water for a soaking. And I stuck some of the other ones in olive oil all the A lot but the ones they picked are soaking in olive oil.

Numbers 2 and 12 clearly have bronze disease
Some of the others likely too
If you find parts of the coins to be "crumbly" around the edges and have greenish areas within the coin is likely in the last stages of life.
Some of the larger volume coin dealers will sell you lots of semi cleaned coins which might give you more satisfaction

I realize you are doing this as a first experiment with the kids and you will learn something from it
But you might consider moving up a few grades on the next attempt

It isn't easy to clean coins
But with the right coins it can be very rewarding to see a coin restored to much of its former beauty

Don't be afraid to ask opinions here before you buy more coins
Many of us have a few nuggets of wisdom and are willing to help
Rest in Peace
