I just got this unusual "love-token" from a dealer's melt bin. While the host coin is a 1913-14 Prussian 5 mark coin, the reverse has been completely obliterated and "Nita Keller Jan 23 1943" with two concentric circles have been engraved on it. In the very center is a figure 8 within a triangle

So is there any way of knowing the exact meaning of this coin? What does the "8" within a triangle mean? Thanks!

May be a military unit designation or a secret symbol for this couple?

Crazyb0 - yeah, I was also wondering if the symbol was military-related. It would be interseting if this were some kind of "trench art" produced by a solider during down time.

Whatever the explanation, it is quite interesting. I would have bought it had I seen it (if the price were right of course). I have never seen a love-token on a German coin, and love tokens in general had pretty much stopped being made after WWI.

oriole - yeah, I thought that it was an unusual piece. I paid melt price for it - $11.
