I really like the look of this series of silver coins and it looks like this one is a key date. I can't find much sales data on it. The only one I can find is from NGC's website https://www.NGCcoin.com/price-guide...duid-1313064Are those prices accurate? Thanks

I set my buying price at 1/3 to 1/2 of that list at NGC. I see coins at auction run in that range. ebay sellers of course set the NGC as absolute. Looking at mintage, yes, is a hard to find date, don't know if I'd call it a key date or not, price doesn't reflect that status.

Thanks I'll take a look. I think going for at least MS would be a challenge but doable?

I count about 80 in the series without overdates.
Looks like maybe 75% of those will be accessible in MS grades for under $100 (and likely many of them for $20), and the other 25% will be more expensive. With a budget of, say, $5,000 I'd think you could put a pretty nice set together in MS grades, This excludes the 1908-F.

Thrill of the hunt begins!
Hard to do research and know what's a fair price since these don't come up in high grade very often.
Let us know if you get it.

The 1/2 Mark 1906 J (hamburg) coin is relatively common in grades up about EF. There are 9 for sale right now in ebay Germany. However, It is scarce in Uncirculated with a price (in Germany) of 170 euros.

Thanks Germanicvs for your insight. Based on your info, would you say that ms64 for $200 Canadian is a good deal then?

Just a couple of thoughts...
You may already be familiar with CoinArchives, where you can do a lot of research, searching on "1/2 Mark (year)" for recent (and sometimes not so recent) auction results.
Not so helpful for 1906 J, but a few of the other key and semi-key dates have some recent activity. Good news is that the highest price I saw was for a 1908J in what looked like a high MS grade that went for 420 eu (compared to NGC website at $1500-2000, and reinforcing the observations of Crazyb0).
And most of the results I saw were with German auction houses.
It looks like the key dates in MS grades do not come up very often, as mentioned by Germanicus.
Have fun! I've just expanded one of my collecting areas and am really enjoying it.
