I just bought an old coin display of common minor world coins. Each coin was mounted using what I think is self adhesive velcro. The glue is nasty; it will not come off, is very sticky and also sticks to skin. Anyone know how to clean off this glue? I have tried finger nail polish with limited success. Vinegar and rubbing alcohol are no use. Lighter fluid could be my next try.
Rest in Peace

Try pure acetone. Finger nail polish is a combination of acetone and other solvents but those extras ruin coins. Acetone works great on glue and other organics. If that still doesn't work, you can try Xylene, another commercial type cleaner. but USE VENTILATION! A lot of those fumes will get ya goofy! Soaking one coin at a time, in a closed container. Rinse with distilled water if needed (acetone will air dry). Do change the liquid after a few coins, the residue gets miked in and will dry back on again. For tough stuff I've soaked overnight.

Be careful with acetone and extra careful with xylene on your hands.

Lighter fluid is also a hydrocarbon like xylene, and might do the trick if acetone didn't work. If you have it around anyhow, you might try that first before going out and buying xylene. Goo Gone is another option.

Lastly, for reasons I don't completely understand, some tape residues (price tags) can be removed by Windex (dilute ammonia).

I prefer to try things I already have around the house rather than add a new bottle of solvent.

As others have mentioned, best to use rubber gloves when dealing with these organic solvents, and use them in a well ventilated place with no ignition sources nearby.

Good luck!

I would assume so since Zippo isn't out of business yet!
