Sorry for the most boring sort of post! I inherited a small set of 1888 gold coins. Before taking them to my safe deposit box, I took this photo, which I'm afraid isn't very good.

Can anyone make a very ballpark estimate of the value of these, or do I need a better image? I could retrieve them and use a better camera, if required.

I'm afraid I have too many other hobbies making demands on my money and time, and they have no real sentimental value since they came from a step-grandparent I barely remember. I will probably sell them to a local (Seattle) coin shop as soon as is convenient. I would like to have a rough idea going in the door what to expect.

Thanks in advance!

If they are all real, they are worth about $2414 in melt value alone, but depending on the specific date/mm of each coin, the total should be more. You can look on ended ebay sales for an estimate of what each has sold for. A local coin dealer may under price them.

to CCF. Pics of the reverse would help. The $3 and $1 should have a nice premium above just gold value, they all most likely do.

Better sharper pics of each coin would help. If they are real they are worth a good amount.

Waiting on larger pics to determine authenticity.
Rest in Peace

These could have significant value.

Give us better photos for grade evaluation.

If all are genuine and without damage I would recommend sending these to a TPG. Either NGC or PCGS.

Having them professionally graded prior to sale with likely result in significantly better prices.

Whatever you do .... do not clean them. You will reduce their value to the $2414 (rounds of gold). There are some nice coins in there.

If would be good if you could find a reputable (local) coin dealer to send them off for grading (PCGS or NGC). If you don't do that.... I recommend you leave them in the large plastic holder and consider ebay or GreatCollections. I am biased towards GreatCollections.

Also, get help taking good pictures. That's my main issue with ebay. Terrible pictures = Low Prices

When you send your coins to GreatCollections ... they take the pictures for you. Serious quality control. Send your coins FedEx with signature required and insure them (also package them very well).

The buyer pays the fee at GreatCollections.

Commenting to emphasize the $3 gold coin is likely worth 3-4x the gold melt value
