As many of you know, I am not a collector of US coins. I am also not a collector (or even a fan) of error coins. But as a part of a whole collection I purchased here in Germany, I now own a (USA) well-circulated 1906 nickel, clipped. Any information would be appreciated. I nearly threw it in the bin, quite seriously, but by chance read that they were perhaps sought after.

Does not look like a clip to me for two reasons.
The irregular shape and the fact that you can see
where the metal on the edge has been pushed up.

@hamburger, first welcome to CCF. Second, a close-up pic of the edge would help to confirm, but I'm inclined to agree with @jimmyd with the information currently available.

PMD.

If it were a genuine clip, then it would not have a smidge of rim - the upsetting mill would have skipped over the missing bit

Toss it in the "bin". It's not a mint error.

to the "discussion"?

EXCEPT,, not all clips are of circular nature. This does have the appearance of a slight "straight edge clip". Although, there is no corresponding signs of a Blake's effect at 3 o'clock. That doesn't preclude it isn't a clip, there may have been enough material left to form that slight ellipsis...? This is definitely an "IF" and one I would mark as so before discounting completely.

To CCF! I don't think it's a genuine Clipped Planchet. It looks like it was grinded down.
