The devices on the area on the outside edge of quarters have incuse devices. They are raised on the die and when die movement happens before/after a strike they enlarge the devices. About 70% of quarters show this. So they are not doubled dies, are more common than even the normal quarters and have no premium for these.

On the States and the ATB Quarters, all the doubled dies are in the center of the designs. The are part of the single squeeze dies and the earlobes are the only area affected on the obverse. The reverse the DDRs on in the center parts of the design.

Ok, this is another exception to my rule. So I now have two Exceptions to the rule. Why are they different than the class 9 doubled dies that we so often see? It is because the doubling is different. Possibly the die was started, and then backed off and then re-hubbed a second time. Now we have a second quarter that is not the following my rule and, a second mint mark that is a doubled die and is not a RPM. (RPMs stopped in 1990) Always nice to know what follows the rule and which ones doesn't. These I will probably cover in another thread by it. so it can be found easier.

That's incused Machine Doubling. Instead of being reduced in size, the size is increased. Very common on the ATB Quarters (about 70% shows this).
Errers and Varietys.
