Hello all. I picked this one up at auction last month and can't figure out why it grades MS64? Any opinions on if this coin could upgrade in a PCGS holder and if not what did NGC see that I don't? Would appreciate comments. Gallery acting up sorry about 1st pic.

Cammy, think it got knocked a few points for that reverse, Pheuuwwee! That's about the most butt ugly reverse view I've seen on a coffinated coin! Not sure what the problem, planchet flaws is what they determined? It has a marbled look to it, rough, very "unbalanced" between the sides, but other than that, the color, chatter all them fine points are fine, steps and Abe are good, so really don't get it. But the obverse looks great, a few tiny contacts is all, go figure. Nice DDO tho!.

Certainly the area below the memorial is disturbed.

Quite surprising! The fields must not be as clean as your picture makes them out to be. The only obvious area is what the Frog said. I also believe PCGS and NCG are notorious for dropping 1 grade to make themselves look better on a LOT of coins.

The disturbance beneath memorial only shows under high resolution or when photographed. With a 10 x loop its not noticeable. The coin itself isn't a spectacular strike but has no ding or nick holding it back. It does lack the omph needed for MS66 but I think its worth a try for reslab with PCGS and shoot for a + or a 65. I have a knockout 1997 dbld ear that's graded 64 that has no noticeable faults that's a headscratcher also. NGC seems to be pretty finicky on modern variety. Couldn't get decent pics. of the doubling on motto and mintmark but their nice. Abe appears to be smirking at me on this one.

Looks like the reverse probably knocked it down a grade or two.

I appreciate the opionions. With fees insurance attribution and postage I'm saving about $72.00 off this post. I don't know why all my coins absoloutly grade higher, and the ones for sale are always overgraded? I'm kinda funny that way :)
Thanks for the opionions.
