Some British pennies that I got in a mixed auction lot have same colouring - I think it's due to cleaning.

The natural color of this coin in near UNC condition looks like this:

Golden-Orange-Toning-On-These-Copper-Coin?-Check-It-Out

I agree that an old cleaning and re-toning could be an explanation.

(edit: I just realized my coin is an earlier type, with slightly different composition, so the comparison makes less sense.)

Difficult to explain without knowing what that coin is made from. I doubt it's Gold though. Might be just natural toning for that type of coin.

These copper coin has natural toning shade without cleaning and you just cannot clean normal coin to become beautiful shade exactly likes these to be honest with you
