While making a list of the US banknotes I have I came across this one where the "L" in Philadelphia is missing. I'm guessing this is nothing to get excited about but I've got to ask anyway. Would this make the note more interesting to a US currency collector? Cheers, Bill

Looks like there was a blob of ink or dirt on the plate when it was printed. You can see part of the bottom of the "L" on the right side peeking out. Don't know if an error collector would put any value on it.

Another good theory Mark. Would probably have to check under a microscope to see if it is printers ink or felt pen ink.

Good eye. My first thought was the same as Mark.

I received this in a run of new notes while on a trip to the US, I only kept two and never noticed it until I was making a list of notes that I have. The only reason I noticed it was I wanted to see where it was issued from and the location is inside the seal. Here's a close-up picture and as you can see or it seems to me the whole area is poorly printed but it's not been attacked with a sharpie. Just for a moment entertain me and assume I'm correct would this have any added interest to collectors if proven to be authentic? Cheers, Bill

It's an interesting blotting...probably $30-$45. If there's an interest at all.

Whatever it is, seems to have affected the serif on the 2nd "P" as well.
