Another Seated half for grade and thoughts. I bought this one to fill a specific variety that I am missing.

Wow, sensational. I'll agree, AU-55 and possibly AU-58.

Nice SLHD. What's the "dot" on her thigh? whispers of hairlines and what's going on with the diagonal mark on the shield? Cool reverse die cracks.

AU-58 but that one looks like it's been worked on.

This is a WB-104 variety and a die marriage of WB-29. The large "hole" on Liberty's left leg is a reverse image of a compass layout center point passed down from the working hub to the working die. Within the reverse shield is a die clash and I love all of the die cracks. It's also a rotated die by 15 degrees ccw.

Quote: Agree au55. Really well struck but missing some luster. Beautiful. Yes, it is missing luster likely from over-dipping. Quote: AU-58 but that one looks like it's been worked on. I think by "worked on" you mean chemically altered correct? I agree the detail is AU+ but would guess AU53 based on these images.

Maybe I'm missing something, but with all due respect this coin looks cleaned and also appears to have no lustre.
IMO EF-45 tops. If I were call it an AU, it would have to be a details.

The color is way off. The look of the crevices around the lettering is off. This is not how an original au-58 coin looks. Cleaned, dipped, whatever the heck you want to call it. the coin is NOT original and the color of the coin is a dead giveaway. Market acceptable? Who knows.

Certainly it's been cleaned, but most likely market acceptable nowadays. It is difficult to find an original AU Seated half dollar or dollar nowadays. Most have been cleaned years ago and toned over, and are considered market acceptable. Technically, an AU coin like this should have some luster. The OP coin has almost no luster and a color characteristic of a dip.
