Hi All,

Going through a box of wheaties from the 30's at the coin shop and found found 1930-1939 all with this rainbow type look. Is it always a result of cleaning? They are really beautiful coins.

Not necessarily, but in this case there does seem to be evidence of cleaning in the right obverse field.

You need to handle your coins with a glove. Your skin oil will remain on the coin permanently.

Oh Ok chase007, your right. I figured because they were probably of no value ( other than to my little collection it didn't matter ) After you said that I thought..great point! Even if they are worth 1 cent..I still like the look of them and want them to remain in the same condition:) I would gather coin experts do not like the look of an "apparent" cleaned coin. I wouldn't be able to tell the difference personally. I wish I could, I cant find alot of information on them.
Coinfrog..does "right obverse field" mean the right side of the coin? Is it the diagonal looking lines? Or the lack of the diagonal lines around the date?

I agree with Coinfrog. You can tell that a cleaning took place, on the right side of the obverse (front).

Your coin although cleaned, it is still worth over the face value. It is not that experts do not like polished coins it is the fact that any polishing will leave it's abrasion marks and it will hinder the coin's value tremendously, the same with finger prints, oil from the skin will remain on the coin permanently, at this point the coin has lost it's originality and it is considered damaged with a great deal of loss on value.

If you look at your image, starting on the field in front of Abe's Eye Brow continuing to above the date, you will notice those very fine vertical lines on the coin, that's what Coinfrog is referring to.

In any case, it's still a keeper.

Could have been stored in a warm location for a time also. (Temps here can get pretty warm in carport storage. The sidewalk I checked the other day with a scan for temp, showed 145 degrees.
