What would you pay for an unopened original roll of 1954 S quarters? Is $160 too much?
Rest in Peace

It's a common date, Numismedia shows MS60 at $149.60. Unless you need 40 of them for your collection, you're betting on there being some high grade MS, which is unlikely on that issue.

Interesting...what makes grades higher than MS60 in this issue unlikely?

A 1954 S in UNC sells from $3.75 to $5.00 plus shipping on ebay; melt value as of this morning is $3.46. IMO $4.00 is not a bad price although a touch high.

My coin budget is shot for another 2 months. I'll buy a roll of theses if they are still available, from a little coin shop near work. I like to take the chance that a high grade might be lurking in the roll.

They are from a coin shop ?
Then likely "high grades" won't exist in there....or at least not a "surprise" high grade....the "coin shop guy" will have surely looked at his merchandise carefully enough to price it accordingly.

Sorry, I see you said "unopened" and "original" roll........
(bank or Mint wrapped ?)
(i should've read more carefully......then yeah....I agree with the purchase and hope you're lucky !)(if nothing "shining" is in there, then ya still have 40 silver quarters to add to yer' pile !)
You're not getting "taken" and he's gonna make a bit of profit off of you....so......go for it !
