Thank you guys. After closer examination and different angles of the penny indeed its struck through not what I thought.

My eyes must be going bad.

The third pic still looks raised to me. The second pic looks like it is indented. Majority opinion wins.

Are you using two light sources for you images? That messes thing up. Light and shadows will be only in one direction that way. Remove one light source and you will see thing differently.
