No. Looks like it took a hit/scrape.

John1 beat me too it. I was going to say the same thing.
Looks more like it has taken a hit than doubling.

Note how the metal moved upwards. (I'm not talking about the lower part of the Machine Doubling, but one the higher part of this device, the metal is pushed upwards. MD can happen on one device or more. Often times stronger on on device and weakning on other devices next to it.
Is-This-Doubling-On-The-L-?-Washington-Quarter So MD is what you seeing on your coin. It it were damage, it would not exactly match the shape of the device. Either way it is not a doubled die. Note the lower image. If it were a doubled die, then chances are more of the devices would be affected next to it. On a doubled die, the doubling is on the die. On MD, it is created after the strike by the machine and follows no rules. Even a doubled die can have Machine Doubling alter the strike after it happened. Hope this helps. If not, ask more questions.

Agree it's just a coincidental hit.

CoopHome will help with many of your questions. Click on the blue link from CoopHome and it will take you to the many threads about subjects you want answers for that are already on the forum. On my thread there are two pages. It probably will open to that page, but view the may threads with hundreds of images and a help to see what you are looking at. That is where I would start.

Any questions, just ask them on those links. That will put them here, on the current day forum and I/we can answer new questions from there.

Machine doubling, not a doubled die. Note the reduction in size of the L.

It will take some time to learn the different types of doubling. Go here, and research known Doubled Die examples. http://www.doubleddie.com
