Hello! I found interesting UK new penny dated 1971 with number 57 pressed on it. Can anyone advice on the origin of the number pressed into coin and potential value? Thank you !

Welcome to the forum.

1p and 2p coins are a cheap source of metal discs for home projects. I have known them used as weights for cloth hems, weights in bases of model soldiers, game counters, and even a home-made cosh made out of a stack of 2p coins.

This number is post mint damage, and it is almost impossible to identify marks like this. Anyone with basic tools could have made it for almost any reason. As to financial value, not much I'm afraid, but still interesting.

Anyone can get a set a metal punches for very little, and hammer anything onto a coin. Thus the significance cannot be known unless the creator chose to tell people.

It's known as a counterstamp.
There is a thread for them if you want to post it on there.
