Paid a visit to my LCS to drop the fact that I'd like to work there, felt like picking though the quarters, found some good ones!

Well, I made my first ever coin shop purchase today. Totally on a whim. I randomly stopped into a shop I drove by, not looking for anything in particular. The guy had 4 morgans among many other things. I've never looked into morgans at all. So I opened my pcgs photograde app on my iphone and made the most uninformed purchase of my life probably. I picked up these two 1884 -O and 1 1887 with no mint mark. I paid $35 each for them. Feel free to let me know how bad I did, maybe it will prevent me from being stupid in the future :)

Today I made a few "serious" world coin purchases (as opposed to the usual junk bin sifting). I'm very proud of them.

Spitsbergen 1993 50 roubles, $6.50
CCCP 1 ruble, probably BU, 1978, $3.00
Thailand/Siam, 1901 or 1902 (haven't done a full attribution yet, this is what the 2x2 says), a good deal for 15 grams of silver at $8. (Numismatic value is higher, it's a problem-free F/VF)

I also got an XF 1925 Yugoslavian dinar along with an UNC 1968 one to repay a family friend for a gift. Pictures will come shortly!

Ta-daaa! I took better pictures.

The Ruble, I think it's actually undergraded. It's very shiny.

Speaking of the USSR, I found these two friends together in the same junk bin.

The Russian coin that was used in Norway. Caused an international incident thanks to its implications of Russian sovereignty over the Norwegian islands of Spitsbergen (it says "RUSSIAN FEDERATION").

The Baht, which has a gloriously overworked coat of arms and a king with a very long title, as you'd expect. I like Thai coins, and this one's big, old, and silver too... plus I got it for cheap!

A circulating commemorative. I have a bit of a weakness for these, and I'm ashamed to say that I would probably pay twice as much for this than I would for a normal 100-Ptas.

A coin from a bad part of the world. It started life in 2003 as a denomination high enough to warrant a lateral image for security, but has now dropped to the less-illustrious value of 23 cents. And using direct sunlight, "clever" photography, and the power of technology, I've animated the lateral image, too:

brg5658, I love the patina on that 1861 Swedish 2 ore. Those British tokens are sharp, as well.

A very shiny Iranian 10 rial coin, much shinier than my old one. This is currently worth 0.05 of a cent. I impressed a friend by knowing the structure depicted on the back (it's the tomb of Ferdowsi).

A thick (see below) 200 peso coin, which are fairly hard to find. Krause is confused on whether it circulated or not - I think it occupies the same nebulous territory as my 5000 peso coin.

It's this thick.

Big Mexican copper. Denominations gradually moved from silver, to debased silver, to copper, to copper-nickel (except the peso, which skipped copper). The copper 50-centavos is one of the more difficult modern ones to find (the older 2-10 centavo issues elude me).

Some funny shapes. I like the "1944" date, very artistic.

My latest acquisitions...courtesy of the local coin show. On a side note, MAN those Britannias are shiny! I like the Canadian dollar coin too. I got some common stuff as well as these, but these are the cool ones.
