@potsdam, very nice coin! also, there's a coin in my group shot here that I forgot to thank you for help on in the original thread about it, so thankyou as the info was very helpful! here are some more recent buys of mine in a group shot. the group includes a 1872 D german 10 mark minted in Bavaria which is the coin I referred to at the beginning of the thread.   also a huge chunk of silver in the form of a 1973 Panama 20 balboas. I couldn't pass it up for $10 over melt. it weight in at 3.86 Oz pure  here it is with a Barber quarter for size comparison. sorry about the blurry pics   Feel free to call me Will.

All of these coins look beautiful. The 10 Mark coin is the early type on which 10 M is divided by the bottom of the eagle. The later type has 10 Mark written out below the eagle. This type here is the one I personally like more as it does not look as standardized :)

This type here is the one I personally like more as it does not look as standardized :) thanks  , I focus on Canadian but once in a while I like to add some fun world stuff if the price is right. this design is my favourite too and I like the oak leaf added to the design of this 2 year type as well. the obverse is great too with such a dimensional, 3D appearance of Ludwig's Hair. I like getting coins on my birthday and was really happy to have that one in the post box today: 1/24 Reichsthaler 1752 from Prussia, minted in Berlin (A).   |

Potsdam- that's a nice piece.
I like a clean design that isn't afraid to have a little white space to accent the key element instead of having every square millimeter filled with something.

I don't completely blame the designers for that. Most states have 3 4 5 ... 9 things they think they're known for and they wanted them all on the quarter.
With certain other design elements that had to be there as part of the series you really end up with small somewhat indistinguishable blobs as soon as the coin gets a little wear.
What I do find surprising is the consistent lack of understanding of the differences between a printed rendering and how an actual coin looks. But that's another diatribe

I agree with you but I collect and therefore really like Prussian coins anyway, no matter what they look like. It is the history that amazes me. Today I got a present for myself. While the first LCS did not have anything for my collection, the second dealer offered me this one for 50€. I couldn't reject the offer... It is a 3 Reichsmark 1930 D commemorative coin that refers to the liberation of the Rhineland that was occupied after WW1. This is also my 1st Weimar Republic commemorative coin. Now I can introduce that category to my online catalog :)   |
