This may not be of much interest to "non-cobbers", but advanced collectors may have some interest ... :

...At the Spanish colonial mint of Potosi (Bolivia), the era of 1618 - 1626 produced several well known, documented minting errors & pecularities of the design elements placement (on the coins' surfaces...) ...

...Juxtaposed quadrants of the lions & castles, both on the shield & cross sides, are well represented, & add value to the coin ...

...Juxtaposed features of the upper shield is a more rare occurrence, & is also documented ...

... the letter "Z", used in place of the Roman Numeral "2" (common on European coinage) is noted for this era, at Potosi (Mexico city occasionally utilized this also) ...

...the dates for coins, 1622 - 1624, were often haphazardly represented: 16ZIII (for 1623), 16ZIIII (1624), & occasionally, the numbers appeared in no particular order(i.e.: I I 6 Z, or 1 Z 6 I, for 1622) .. these examples also command a premium in price ...

...this 1 real cob that I just bought has 3 design errors: the bottom fields of the Hapsburg shield are transposed, the escutcheon for Granada (in the shield) is omitted, & the lion & castle quadrants of the cross design are transposed (see diagram) ... ( none of this was noticed or noted in the auction, nor does the PCGS slab description mention any of these 3...) ...

...this is the 2nd example I own of this anomaly (I have a 2 reales / Potosi / same era) ...

...the lower shield anomaly / error is yet undocumented in any article or journal ... both my 1 real & 2 reales have been examined & verified as genuine by a most reliable & knowledgeable source ...
