My first proof Indian Head cent. I got it for 15% under Greysheet bid, I suspect because the pics on Heritage made it look like it was no longer red. I know that's why I put in a bit of a lowball bid, but it turns out the coin looks far better in hand. Definitely not a "blazing" red, but seeing the coin in hand made me feel a whole lot better about my purchase!  |

hookiefan nice pickup! I think the Heritage photos are usually pretty good, gotta watch and see if they are reused Great collections photos or ones from old auctions or newly shot. You can tell by searching, watermarks and in general the quality and size of the photos. (usually not always), but I think Heritage does a good job representing the coins in a natural look, I've been pretty pleased with every coin I've bought from photos only, granted I live near them and can view lots in person, but I don't always get to do that.

@westcoin, I agree, Heritage pics are generally very good, especially the past few years. I've been purchasing coins on Heritage auctions for over 8 years now, and usually the pics are very representative (not always the case for GreatCollections, though they've been getting a lot better).
I always try to search for previous auction appearances of coins, or in the PCGS/NGC label verification. However, this one had no previous auction appearances nor did PCGS have pics in their database. The price was low enough I wasn't too concerned about it, but I was happy to see it was nicer than the Heritage pics showed.
