Just got this beauty today. This is the new star of my collection. A 1914 1 Escudo from the Portuguese Republic. This coin commemorates 4 years after the revolution ( October 5, 1910). Only 1,000,000 were minted as collectors pieces and very few remain. EDIT: Oh, and in case you want to know, its Morgan sized    Edited by tzarmarko

joeturbo => yes, "escudo" is a good word ... I copied these photos from page 67 of this thread (nobody commented on this/my 1000 escudos bill at the time, so I thought I'd bring it forward and dangle it once again) ... => this Portuguse note is now "70" years old (I think the note is absolutely gorgueous) ... ... and speaking of gorgeous Portuguese => I ended-up marrying a gorgeous and super-cool Portuguese girl!!    => oh, and that is a beautiful coin, tzarmarko!!

No pics yet but the local coin shop always gives back cool stuff in change. The other day, I got an UNC 1950 D Jefferson. Never got one like that back before.
