The Google Books version of that catalogue lists the "Everton Club" as being in Liverpool, which is of course the same locale as the football club. However, the token is not from the famous football club, but from a "gentleman's club" in the same area. As is the case with most club tokens in England, Australia and elsewhere, the tokens were likely used as "club money" at a time when gambling with cash, and purchasing alcohol out of hours, were illegal. I cannot speak for this specific token, but such tokens were typically used in the pre-WWII era, 1890s-1930s.
The Google Books entry also mentions the existence of a 2½d token from this club, but no other denominations.
