Hi everyone, So I found this 1983 Lincoln Memorial cent with errors(i believe)in the columns but I am not sure what it is called. Please let me know your thoughts.
These are called Die Scratches (polishing lines). As you can see, they were trying to polish out a previous Die Clash event on the die, but didn't get all of it. Polishing down the die also extends the life of it as well. http://www.error-ref.com/thinning-a...gn-elements/
Trying to remove the clash marks and during the 1983-1984 cent dies there were several clash/polish events over and over. The polishing was so deep it started altering the columns. Fairly common during those two years.
