This is a copy coin from China that sells for $2.04 One side is somewhat similar to Augsburg and the other side is similar to Ellwangen, but the design & date doesn't line up. One of these is on the bay for $39.00 plus $8.00 shipping. This maker of copy coins in China is often the source of coins that we see here in this forum. As is true in this case.

This coin is cannot be a fake because it was found in an old tomb. In our small town there is a small cemetery and very seldom when digging a pit for a new coffin the diggers bump into an old tomb. In this case I was the witness of it. The coin needed cleaning which we did. That's why it looks like new.

The coin does not match genuine coins that I have found so far, but it does match this piece made and offered for sale in China: It also does not look like a 1624 Thaler coin that has been cleaned.

I think the coin can certainly be fake because of what the maker / seller states on the page where they are offered for sale:
"Welcome to my shop! I only sell replica coins for collections, none of the coins I sell are original. Please don't buy them as the original coins."

I am not an expert in numismatics thus I am in this forum. As far as I understand replica means a copy, which does imply that there is an original. Could anyone help with the infomation about the original coin?

The original was a thaler of Ellwangen, now a town to the east of Baden-Württemberg in Germany. See https://www.NGCcoin.com/price-guide...duid-1346332It looks too good to be genuine. If it's not a replica then it's been severely tooled. What is its weight in grams, please ?

Thank you to Pertinax. The coin was not found in any of the books I first searched under Ellwangen. So after your post, I took a second look and verified it is not seen in my SCWC 17th century 3rd edition, but it is seen in the older 2nd edition under Ellwangen. So once again it pays to retain older catalogs and I regret not searching this older edition when I could have done it earlier.

The tomb may be old but the coin is not.
